Lake Phalen

Lake Phalen

Saint Paul, Minnesota

Lake Phalen is a deep urban lake at the heart of one of Saint Paul's oldest parks. It covers about 198 acres with roughly 3 miles of shoreline and reaches a maximum depth near 91 feet, averaging about 24 feet. The watershed district tracks it as a stable lake with consistently good water quality. Mature shade trees, restored shoreline plantings and wetland edges ring the water and support a wide range of birds and wildlife. Anglers find bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, northern pike, largemouth bass, walleye, muskellunge, yellow perch, bullhead and carp, and the lake is the farthest-downstream water in the Phalen Chain, linked to Round, Keller, Gervais and Spoon lakes.
