Lake Owen
Cable, Wisconsin
Lake Owen is an easy three hour drive from the Twin Cities metro area and provides the opportunity for excellent fresh water diving. This nine mile long lake (with a maximum depth of 95') is located in the Chequamegon National Forest. Lake Owen has a wide variety of interesting bottom compositions, along with one of the best Smallmouth Bass populations in the Minnesota / Wisconsin area. The fish are accustomed to divers and will often eat the resident crayfish from divers' hands. Lake Owen's visibility in the summer is rarely less than 20' with the thermocline down near 40' by early September. For over 35 years, this dive destination has been a long time favorite for many of Scuba Center's Instructors and Divemasters.
The Lake Owen Resort has been the host of divers weekends for many years and the fun dive weekend is limited to guests of the resort (or associated properties). Lake Owen Resort fun dive weekend guests are provided with free air fills* (*only from the resort's own compressor). The more you dive the more you save! For the group dive events, Lake Owen must be dove by boat. If you do not have a boat, a few rental pontoons are available. The resort has limited docking space available for their guests towing a boat.
